Naked is a selection of intimate and revealing photographs by Japan-born and London-based photographer Mari Sarai. The collection focuses on notions of femininity and nudity that attempts to subvert the “male gaze” so often propagated by mainstream media. Featuring iconic friends such as Janice Dickinson, Daisy Lowe, Alice Dellal and Alek Wek, the images were all taken in the models homes in an attempt to ensure their comfort and maintain an organic quality to the work.
Sarai initially worked as a photojournalist in New York but relocated to London in 2005 to explore her passion for fashion photography. Following this move, Sarai has worked with publications including: Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and Dazed & Confused.
“I wanted to express that the nudity of a woman is not limited to fulfilling men’s erotic desires. She is worthy of respect. A naked woman can possess her own style, independence and strength”.
